Well / Sick Care

Wilkes County Health Department provides a medical home for children with complete care from birth up to age 21. The Health Department will see children for well check visits (regular health care check-ups and screenings) and for sick visits if they do not have a doctor. Patients receive physical exams, developmental screening and education, laboratory services, immunizations, treatment, or medicines when needed and referral when necessary. Wilkes County Health Department also offers care management for those who are Medicaid eligible.

Some of the Services we Provide: 

  • Well Child Exams These exams should be completed yearly to insure your child has no medical problems you are unaware of. 
  • Sports Physicals Complete sports physicals as required (yearly) by local schools and community organizations. 
  • Vaccines Required vaccinations are provided at no cost for children, 18 and under, who meet eligibility guidelines. Parent/guardian will be responsible for all others.
  • Vision and Hearing Screenings Hearing screenings available from birth until the age of 21. Vision screenings beginning at the age of 3 through age 21. 
  • Dental Varnishing Dental Varnishing is provided from time of first tooth until 3 1/2 years old. 
  • Sick Visits Sick visits are available as needed. Please keep yearly physicals up -to -date in order to guarantee being seen. 
  • Blood Lead Screenings Blood lead screenings are provided during physicals beginning at age 1 through age 6 based on state recommendations. 
  • Developmental Screenings Developmental screenings begin at 6 months of age through 21 years of age.
