Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance
It is the purpose of
this
Ordinance (PDF) to promote the public health, safety, and general welfare and
to minimize public and private losses due to flood conditions in
specific areas by provisions designed to:
- Restrict or prohibit uses
which are dangerous to health, safety, and property due to water or
erosion hazards, or which result in damaging increases in erosion or in
flood heights or velocities
- Require that uses vulnerable to floods,
including facilities which serve such uses, be protected against flood
damage at the time of initial construction
- Control the alteration
of natural floodplains, stream channels, and natural protective barriers
which are involved in the accommodation of flood waters
- Control
filling, grading, dredging, and other development which may increase
erosion or flood damage
- Prevent or regulate the construction
of flood barriers which will unnaturally divert flood waters or which
may increase flood hazards to other lands.
Mobile Home Park Ordinance
This Ordinance (PDF) establishes the methods and standards for: regulating mobile homes in development of mobile home parks; defining certain terms used; providing for the method of administration and amendment; requiring the installation of certain improvements; and providing penalties for violation; repealing and conflicting.
Noise Ordinance
The
Noise Ordinance (PDF) protects the public and safeguards the health, safety, welfare, peace, dignity, comfort and repose of the citizens of the County, by regulating and prohibiting the existence of unreasonably loud or disturbing noises.
Road Naming Ordinance
Establishes the placement and erection of uniform road signs throughout Wilkes County, and to eliminate further duplication of road names promoting the safety and well-being of citizens. Read the

Subdivision Ordinance
The purpose of this
Subdivision Ordinance (PDF) is to establish procedures and standards for the development and subdivision of real estate within Wilkes County in an effort to, among other things: insure proper legal description, identification, documentation, and recordation of real estate boundaries; further the orderly layout and appropriate use of land; provide safe, convenient and economic circulation of vehicular traffic; provide suitable building sites which drain properly and are readily accessible to emergency vehicles; assure the proper installation of roads and other improvements; promote the eventual elimination of unsafe or unsanitary conditions arising from undue concentration of population; and help conserve and protect the physical and economic resources of the County.
Watershed Ordinance
The purpose of this
Watershed Ordinance (PDF) is to protect the
quality of drinking water for Wilkes County by setting standards for the
development that occurs within designated Public Water Supply Watershed
areas. The intent is the establishment of watershed regulations
reflecting the protection of critical environmental areas.
Wireless Communication Tower Ordinance
Encourages the orderly
development of wireless communication technologies for the benefit of
the County and its citizens. This ordinance also serves to protect the
character and appearance of its communities. As a matter of public
policy the County desires to encourage the delivery of new wireless
technologies throughout the County while controlling the proliferation
of communication towers. Such development activities will promote and
protect the health, safety, prosperity and general welfare of persons
living in Wilkes County. Read the

Zoning Ordinance
Zoning promotes the public health, safety,
morals and general welfare; promoting. the orderly development of the
county; lessening congestion in the roads and streets; securing safety
from fire, panic, and other dangers; providing adequate light and air;
preventing the overcrowding of land, avoiding undue concentration of
population, and. facilitating the adequate provision of transportation,
water, sewerage, schools, parks, and other public requirements. View the
