Landfill Services

60,000 tons of trash is brought to the WIlkes County Landfill annually.

There is a $38-per-ton tipping fee on trash. It cost 60 cents to dump a bag of trash at the landfill. However, dumping by the bag is free if a bag of recyclable goods are brought for every bag of trash. For those bringing pickup loads, or more than nine bags of trash, the loads are then weighed.

The charge is $5 and up, based on the $38-per-ton rate. Recyclable materials include newspapers, magazines, aluminum and steel cans, plastic bottles and cardboard.

The Wilkes County Landfill accepts recyclable materials such as, aluminum cans, used motor oil, used motor oil filters, newsprint and magazines, cardboard, batteries, plastic bottles 1-7, tires (off rim), and whitegoods (refridgerators, freezers, washers, dryers, and hot water heaters).

Materials NOT accepted are liquid waste and hazardous waste. All waste brought to the Landfill are subject to a screening procedure before accepting.

The Wilkes County Landfill is open Monday - Saturday from 7:00am to 6:00pm. For more information, Contact Us.
