RE:      Citizens Voter Registration Awareness Month

Governor Easley has proclaimed September 2008 as “Citizens Voter Awareness Month” in North Carolina. The goal of this proclamation is to provide North Carolina citizens with every opportunity to register to vote. As you well know the upcoming general election is expected to have the largest voter turnout in history. It is imperative that every registered voter maintain current information on their voter record. Many voters don’t realize that they need to update their voter record when they move or change their name. Also, it is important that any citizen who wishes to register to vote been given this opportunity.

If any organization or individual would like to conduct a voter registration drive during the month of September please contact the Wilkes County Board of Elections. The Board of Elections office will give instructions on how to conduct a voter registration drive and supply the needed materials.

Please remember that the voter registration books close on October 10th at 5:00 pm for the November 4, 2008 General Election. Voter Registration forms for new voters and voters with changes of information are due at this time.

Attached you will find a copy of the proclamation signed by the Governor. Remember that registering to vote and voting are one of the most important privileges that we have as citizens of the United States.

Please contact the Wilkes County Board of Elections office at 651-7339 or by email at wilkes.boe@ncmail.net to receive information about conducting a voter registration drive.
