G. S. 165-11 provides that no fees may be charged for records furnished pursuant to a request by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in assisting persons to obtain any veteran's benefits.

G. S. 47-109/113 provides that no charge for a certified copy of member or former member of armed forces discharge may be charged.

The NC Association of Registers of Deeds (NCARD) hereby interprets G.S. 161-11.6 to charge the five dollar ($5) fee on any document that has the word "Deed" in the title of the instrument, (with the exception of Deeds of Trust and Mortgage Dees) or any document that Excise Tax is collected.
